Farming with Nature in Mind

We, as farmers, make decisions about how our land is cared for. That gives us the unique opportunity to lead community conservation efforts. We choose to take on that role with all of our hearts. We do the work every day to integrate farming into real, hands-on conservation right here in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

01

Planting Trees and Restoring Prairie

Over several years, we planted 28 acres of tallgrass prairie, over 200 native oak trees, and 65 acres of perennial pastures in order to mimic a diverse oak savanna. Our livestock rotationally graze through this landscape, carefully managed to build soil, develop wildlife habitat, and create a feast for millions of local pollinators. This farming ecosystem shows that food production and conservation can be (and need to be) one and the same.

02

Wildlife Loves It

As we learn what our land needs, we continue to adapt to allow our farm and its diverse ecosystem to flourish at its own natural pace. That means burning the prairie to revitalize the deep rooted grasses, observing which birds are calling for mates or flying overhead for prey, or avoiding grazing where native birds are nesting in the spring. We are constantly altering our methods to align with our land ethic.

A Brighter Future

You have the opportunity to be a huge part of our conservation efforts. Every dozen of Prairie Gold eggs you buy contributes directly to our care for the local wildlife, their habitat, and our land management. These eggs are our way of including you in our work and offering the opportunity to restore prairie while enjoying the most flavorful eggs in Wisconsin. Join us in taking care of our natural community.
